How to remove Google Fonts from WordPress for speed and GDPR

Use PluginsForStores System Font Stack to drop Google Fonts requests and apply native system fonts site-wide — faster pages and fewer third-party connections.

The problem with Google Fonts on store fronts

Google Fonts add DNS lookups and stylesheet/font downloads before text looks final. They also create a third-party request that many EU store owners prefer to avoid for privacy/GDPR simplicity.

System fonts (San Francisco, Segoe UI, system-ui, etc.) render immediately and match the visitor’s OS.

    What System Font Stack does

The plugin removes common Google Fonts enqueues and printed theme links, then applies a sensible system font stack across the site when enabled.

    • One checkbox: enable site-wide
    • No Google Fonts requests when active
    • Faster first paint for text-heavy pages
    • Settings under PluginsForStores → System Font Stack

    How to set it up

Install and activate from PluginsForStores. Open PluginsForStores → System Font Stack and enable “Remove Google Fonts and apply system fonts site-wide”.

Hard-refresh a public page and verify in DevTools Network that fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com are gone. If a theme injects fonts via uncommon methods, you may still need a theme-level tweak — report that to support with the theme name.

    Who this is for

Store owners who want a quick performance and privacy win without redesigning typography. Agencies who standardize “no Google Fonts” on client shops.
